its not that much different there are some light green colored tips and a bunch of yellow buds.not pic worthy yet...its the spring growing season, it was a very healthy tree to start so that helped,also reducing the branches so much actually gave the roots that were left a chance to do there job. if there was more leaves the roots would have been overewhelmed and then the tree would have died (good lesson learned)
ike you im still surprized it was 2 weeks on the day it was really quick,i expected a month if not more

well i finaly took a new pic of this one...all branches that had needles are showing growth and there has been some backbudding.i have also found that yews can be airlayered so the potential could be alot of smaller trees,ill have to see.all i know is that im going to find a professional to do the work

Well it looks like really good bonsai material but when i look closer about 80% of the tree isn't really.
Too bad all thick branches and trucks have almost no foliage and it's growing so far away from the trunk.
But.. Although it will take many years to get foliage in the right places and get à nice branchstructure when grown and pruned correct this will be a stunning tree after 10 or more years.
I've seen some footage of a yew that was dug out 12 years ago because of it's trunk and deadwood.. They almost pruned every branch off so it became à stump and started to carve shari's and jins.
After that they let it grow for tree years, backbudded and only wired the primairy branches in place That grew back and were usefull in à future design.
Then they only preformed pruning so it kept it's basic shape and after 10 or 12 years it got it's 1st styling.
The tree looked amazing and really natural and mature.

So time is the secret. Anyways in you like i can draw you à virtual so you can see what i mean.

you are correct with thw 80% there are 3 braches i would keep with the original base. i figure 2 years and then the airlayers will start on the unneeded branches then the rest will come in time.
these things backbud anywere so who knows what the future will hold. ill be just happy it lives through winter

Can you post the dimensions and materials you used to build that, I'd like to make one similar to it for some trees I have to dig up.

i used 2x10s the box is 28 inches x32in i think .i used 2x4s to brace the corners.i put chicken wire over the bottom and secured it w/ 2x10 squares as feet in the corners and firing strips through the bottom for support. i then split open a carpenter trash bag and lined the box,punched alot and i mean alot of holes in the plastic and then planted the tree.i used long screws to put it all together mainly so i can pull a side off easily when its time for rootwork
it will be easier to get the tree out not having to pick it up over the side

My grandpappy used to have that same kind hedge in front of his house. If left alone they have excellent yamadori traits.

It's definitly huge so I'm sure root pruning will be very "fun"
