After bemoaning the fact I had very little bonsai related work to do I decided to bonsai my bluberry bush.

The bush came out much better than I thought. Especially after I bent it severely. Although you can't see it in the pictures I anchored the wire using binder clips. Although I've never seen them used in this way I must confess that they hold extremely tight.

I also submitted pictures of my bonsai in training that are safely nestled in the garden with some straw mulch.

Unfortunately, my bluberry has come down with "Mummyberry" and will need some fungicide. I also believe my grape and cherry caught the same fungi. Therefore I'm going to be spraying them for the near future.

Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think.

i would get rid of the hay you have around everything. hay decomposes too fast and will breed mold.if you are looking for water retention in the soil you should use pine bark or long strand sphagnum moss as a top dressing

Actually I'm also training ailanthus altissima into a bonsai. I'll get a picture of it but I'm hopeful that it will make an excellent specimen!

leaves might be the setback when they grow in sets like that they are hard to reduce.
by no means am i saying dont do it cuz i have a few garden seedlings that have the same leaf structue that im playing around with. at worst you may have to grow a large one to make the leaves fit the tree ;)
