Very nice, Lance. Will the leaves stay this small now? This one has such great potential as a Bonsai, yes? Is there another name for this one other than "privet" do you know? I really hope this experiment works for you...in fact I think it already has!!! ;)

This is also known as ligustrum ovalifolium. I don't know of any other name. They are pretty common as shrubs. I do like it. I think next spring when I separate it from the "bottom", it will be nicer :)

...and, the leaves of a privet are small to begin with. When they get larger than I like, i clip them off. :)

Thank you, Lance. I always thought the word "privet" was a British term for "hedge" which could consist of several varieties of shrub-like plants. Huh! I just learned something else that's new! :) I luv the dainty, little leaves.

This thing has grown pretty well. I ended up clipping it again, but it's grown already. I took this picture last night.
I think next summer I'm cutting a lot of this growth. next spring it's getting separated from the trunk :)

This is growing very nicely, Lance!:cheer: Are you planning on using the long branch (centre right) as a leader off the main trunk?

Yes Leslie,
The longest branch will hopefully be the new leader. I'm going to let it grow and see how it looks.
First I need to see if the "layer" worked. I'm sure it will as privets root easily.
Next year I'll work on getting rid of all the thick stumps" on the trunk, then I'll start to think about styling :)
