I have recently bought a mini bonsai kit and have heard on the internet and other sources that it can be troublesome to grow. The seeds included in the pack are from the jack pine tree. Many people have argued that they do not sprout into saplings.

I was wondering if anybody had any tips on growing a jack pine with the kit.

Bob, there is no such thing as bonsai tree seed. To describe seed as that is a lie. They are tree seed. If they germinate they will be saplings of course, that is what seedlings are. But they will not be any size in particular, they will become the size you want to grow them. So if you plant them in the ground for twenty years they will be big. If you keep them in a small pot they will stay small.
I did buy one of these a long time ago, they are a waste of time and money.
I have noidea what Jack Pine is, but you will be lucky if you get anything from it

I have bought it already so I will give it my best shot. It is not very well organised because in the book included in the kit, their is only 2 pages out of 37 pages dedicated to growing the actual tree.

I do not mean to cause offence, Bob, but these kits are a disgrace and any self respecting bonsai seller would not sell them. In my opinion they breach the sale of goods act that says that articles should be described honestly. These kits are not as described.
As I said I did buy one of them a very long time ago, we all make mistakes and I think I had one seedling but it never grew and eventually died.
The problem is the length of time between buying and finding out that they are no good is so long that few complain.

I was given one about 20 years ago, Colorado Blue Juniper, got about 5 seedlings germinated, I still have one, it's my worst tree...

thank you for giving me a description of the kit, but as i said, i have bought it already so i will give it my best shot.
L also looked up a jack pine on the internet, and the picture on the front of the kit, and they do not look similar at all.
if i do get a rather nice looking tree, then i will eat my head.

hi guys, it may seem that i might have to eat my head. you see, i collected some scots pine seeds in spring that looked healthy and i put them with the jack pine seeds. the silly thing i did though was that i did not label it so i do not know if it is a jack pine or a scots pine, but i am more convinced that it is more of a scots pine. there is a picture of it below and i have potted it into a small pot. i intend to make it a mame bonsai.

You still have to grow it for several years in the ground to get a trunk before you can start to style it in any size, Are you sure that is a pine?
