That filled up nicely. Are you going to let the dome fill completely? Or will there be some open spaces too?

That's a good looking tree, Orlando. Tell me more about this acid issue. I don't own any picea specimens anymore, but now I'm curious.

I'm not a Docter but i will try to explain. Acids in sweat and other naturel acids on the hands are partly to blame for the loss of needles. You can wear rubber gloves, but i can't work with them  . Spraying with fertilizer over the needles and wiring around the needles cause them to die. Thats with picea in general but the Picea abies 'Little Gem' has a strong reaction to it. The person that explained it to me owns some impressive picea,so i assume that he knows what he is talking about.

cheers

Hi,

I really like your tree, well done

When I first started getting in to bonsai about 2 years ago I picked up 3 of these 'little gems' and tried to create finished looking trees, as I'm sure many newbies do, big mistake!
2 of them I have now cut right back and started again, but the one pictured I kind of like, I know it doesn't tick all the bonsai boxes but I'm hoping over the next decade it might start to

I have it in a big flat tray for now just to keep it healthy until I find the right pot

I have had that problem with die back on the branches I wired so thanks for helping me understand why that's happening

Another thing I did in my ignorance, was cut the root balls down by like 75% to get them in little training pots, but they didn't seem to mind, they were quite vigorous the following year

Any thought s or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
Si
