Sorry if it's already asked but what will happen if you never pruned after lots of years? I was wondering about getting one and realised that what if I got fed up of pruning after 40 odd years will it grow still?

Sure. Trees do not stop growing. It will turn shrub turn fullgrown tree.

If you do not like maintaining bonsai, get a different hobby

Actually, assuming the tree is in a pot, if you have never pruned for lots of years, the tree will be dead.
