hi Im fairly new to bonsai and i have a weeping willow in a 3 gal pot. right now its about 3ft tall with a trunk about 1in thick. Im wanting to chop the trunk down to make it about 1ft tall. it has 2 or 3 branches on the lower half and most its branches are on the top half in which i want to get rid of. would this be possible or is it something that may hurt or kill the tree.

If i am indeed able to chop the trunk what are some techniques you guys recommend like:
when is a good time of year to do this?
do i use cut paste after?
after the trunk chop will branches start to grow?

i will post a picture of the tree and where i would like to chop as soon as i get a chance.

I dont know your location
But i would wait till spring and chop it down low
Willows backbud great !
you could even cut off any size of branch stick it in the ground or a bucket of water and they will grow roots

I woudl cut mid winter. THat way, the tree has time to create buds for the spring flush. No need for cutpaste. Willow will not close the wounds anyway.
