I'm new to bonsai and thought it might be possible to create one from an ordinary plum tree, grown from a pit. The seedling is just reaching a year old now and has started to lay down bark at its base. It's still primarily green and quite thin and straight.
I was wondering if it was advisable to start wiring it now, or do I need to wait until it's fully covered in bark? At what size in general should a seedling be considered ready for shaping and 'bonsaification'? And also, if this type of tree CAN be turned into a bonsai
Attached is an image, the plant is about 30 cm tall and I haven't started any preparations for it yet
Thanks.
