Dawn Redwood .
Repotted and fed approx 3 months ago.

It's my first Spring with the tree.

Not sure if I should prune now or wait until some of the branches get thicker.

Any suggestions?

Why would you want the branches to get thicker?

You're a bit late with pruning - should be done in spring before the buds open. Don't take my word for it though, look up the article about this species on this website.

Thank you for your reply.

I will certainly do some research.

I would just like your opinion on whether or not I should prune right now? Clearly it's too late but if I leave all that growth how big a problem will that be?

Well.. the usual rules for bonsai - growing the trunk fatter, create tapering, develop the rootbase, ramification etc.. do not really apply here.
You can prune it a bit, to keep it's current shape. Doesn't seem really necessary yet though.

OK thank you. I think I'll leave it for now.

Also just to clarify, when I meant, should I let the branches get thicker, I actually meant the new growth branches, not the main branches. Previously I've cut off too much (leaves) and weakened the tree and I've also cut off new growth before it has a chance to form into new branches so this is why I am hesitant about pruning right now.

I guess I'll just leave it. Also I think the tree on the far end may be dying. No new growth at all. (image attached). I'm wondering if the other trees are sucking the life out of it or there could be another underlying problem.

You can see an obvious lack of growth on one side.
Any suggestions?

The one on the end does not seem to be dying. by the looks of it, it is dead.
