Pruning the top off of Pomegranate plant? was created by trikru

I'm trying this little experiment with a pomegranate that I've started from seed back in November 2017. The pomegranate is in a tiny mesh pot. The pot is placed in a container (but is not soaked in the liquid) that has NPK fertilizer and water. It's like semi hydroponic system. The roots that escape the pot are entering the water/fertilizer and they feed the plant. So far, 7-8 months later, the plant is healthy and growing pretty fast. But I'm starting to think about:

1. When I should cut the the top off? If I have to wait, how long I should wait for before I do that?
2. How much I should cut it? (ie back to first couple of set of leaves?

Right now, there's no ramification, it's just a single stem/trunk and that's it. But the roots are doing great. When they reach the bottom of the container, I prune them (they are sacrificial roots, later on I'll use the roots in the mess pot only)

I'll attach some photos so you get a better idea.

Nice experiment.
You should however focus on the plants health before you do anything else. It is suffering from nutrient deficiencies. Look at the lowe rleaves. The brak green veigns and yellow leave are a sign of shortages. You probably are not fertilizing the plant properly.

I'm trying not to overfertilize it because that would kill it for sure. I user diluted fertilizer to prevent that, but maybe it's not enough as you said.

Hi Trikru,
Off topic question. How long did it take the seed to germinate? I bought some pomegranate seeds off E-bay. They've been 3 weeks in soil but no sign of germination....
Thanks

I believe between 3 and 4 weeks. It was quite sometime ago so my memory isn't that clear anymore. But wait longer. Just make sure the soil isnt dry.
