Hey everyone, I am new to this bonsai game, and I had a couple of questions I wanted to ask.

I have a 1 year old juniper bonsai that is about 3 inches tall. I repotted it roughly 3 months ago. The trunk is still fairly thin.

I was wondering how long I should wait before starting to shape/prune it. I don't want to break the trunk or cause damage. Should I wait for a certain age, or size?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Jay.

There is not much to prune yet, but if you keep it inside you won't have it for long. It will be dead in a few months.

If it's 1 year old, it's not a bonsai, but a young plant.
You have a young juniper with some small decorative figures to make it resemble a bonsai.

This is too young to train. Let it grow. Outdoors.

..what they all say.. and:
- get rid of those decorative things ( they only prevent water from reaching everything)
- if you want it to grow dont put it in a tiny bonsai pot ( its not because it is in a tiny pot that it is or will become a bonsai)
- study study study, there is so much to learn about bonsai that you may have scratched the surface by the time there can be done with your young plant.
