Hello to the community!

Newcomer to the hobby and I’ve decided my first project will be this Juniper I dug up from my sisters back yard.

So far I’ve just placed it in a pot (seems to take to it alright) and done some light trimming and cleaning.

I’m trying to decide on a style to go with before I start to wire and train it. My thoughts are a cascade to the left (or right) and to create a deadwood section on the opposite side.

Any help or advice is appreciated, photos attached...

I don't know when you dug it up, but your first concern needs to be to keep it alive, before trying any styling.

It's not suitable for cascade.

Are you sure it is juniper and not thuja?
I think your first concern is finding out whether it backbuds. If it does, spend a few years getting the foliage back, while setting the main branches.

Probably an (in)formal broome, or (in) formal upright.

Not sure I would start with this though. Very long process to get this to a decent state.

Looks like a thuya indeed, which as far as I know doesn't backbud. Is the plant inside for the picture, or permanently? If so, it will die
