Not sure what you just did there.
To be honest it looks more like a tree that's tied up and held for ransom than a bonsai-in-the-making.

A good idea is to read up on how to properly wire a tree .The wiring I see now isn't reaally supporting the tree and braches properly. There are a few good sites and courses out there that explain it pretty good .Can't really think of one right now but maybe someone else here can.

My first wiering was not much better, but improoved a lot doing a few more trees.

I dont understand the design. Do you plan to keep the split trunk or is your plan to make them grow together to be one.

I think you killed a tree

Quite possible. That is a serious hard cutting and repotting.

OP: please update us on the status of this tree in may.

Wiring AND pruning AND reducing the roots, putting it in a bonsai pot, doing it all at once, unplanned, without gradually reducing the tree, is almost always a certain death for the plant.

Yup. It is however a little species dependent too. Spruce is iffy and will have a hard time dealing with this. Some other species however..: www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/progressions/...erry-tree-killing-it

I should have added 'first timers who...'. People like you, who know what they are doing, can get away with far more than beginners can. You know when to do what, how much you can prune, how much you can reduce the roots, how vigourous the tree is and how much it can take.

Oh, I am also not taking any bets on the survival of the cherry. Just do not want to waste around waiting. Eventually I would have made similar cuts so decided to take the risk. In normal situation it should pull through but..
