Hello!I am trying to cultivate my very first bonsai.
I dug up this lovely olive sapling today and trimmed it a bit, but I need some advice on how to style it.
I love the twin trunk look, but how should I shape the branches?

It needs to establish in the pot for at least a year, so let it grow with no pruning all this year then next year if it is well rooted then you can think about some work on it

Second Geoff on that. And meanwhile spend your time on studying the tree and other trees online. Given enough time on it, the style you want will be obvious in a year.

Interesting thoughts by the community.

Do you know what the base looks like? Often below-ground is where the main interest is. You COULD make a very short stocky tree, considering the two trunks are lodepine straight.

As olives survive with pretty much no roots at all, you should see a swift response in the roots. You are in either a warm place, or it is summer for you.

I have in the past trimmed olives and repotted in good substrate in one go, with no big issues.

Why do you have it in all-organic substrate? DO you live in a hot climate?
