I'm sorry if this is a duplicate, but I wasn't sure the first one went through. I was asking for advice as to why my two ficus bonsai's are somewhat thin. I can't seem to encourage thicker growth. I fear I may have over pruned them.

100% spot on. To get the trunks to get thicker, you need growth.
Best to get these outside for summer, let them just run and grow.

Keep in mind that if you have plants indoors, sun is very weak. Moving them outdoors in full sun will get them to burn their leaves, so place them in shade for the first weeks, slowly exposing to more sun.

Thanks a bunch. The only reason I brought them in is because it blistering hot out. Whatever bonsai skills I have, pruning and shaping is my weakest area. So should I just let them go on their own, and not mess with them?

I have aquired another ficus. My weak area is pruning. I don't want to do what I did to the other ficus trees. Can you look at the pic, and just give me a little guidance on where I should prune, or maybe I should wait a while.

What do you want to achieve with the tree? If it still is a thicker trunk you should let it grow freely.

I wanted of course to get some shape to it, but I agree. I'm going to let it grow freely.

I hope you don't mind me asking a non pruning question. As you can see the ficus is in potting soil. At what point do i repot to bonsai soil?
