Hi guys!
I bought a young ficus about 4 years ago. Last winter the top layer of the soil got some mould and it grew a little bit on the roots above the ground. I repotted the plant, it survived. But it lost all the leaves close to the trunk. I have been letting it grow wild since then, pruning it every couple of months to no specific shape in hope it will refoliate close to the trunk again. The plant seems to prosper, it has many nice smallish leaves on distal parts of branches, but it is naked on their proximal halves near the trunk. So I was thinking maybe you could give me some expert advice. Defoliate? Let it be? Some special pruning technique? I would not want to hurt the plant, it has a special sentimental value to me.
Thank you!
