Hi everyone!

I have been gifted this Bonsai a little while ago. When I got it it was trimmed all the way down. I gave it lots of water and sunlight, after that it started to grow like crazy (see picture).

Does this growth look okay?

Should I start pruning or do I let it go? And how would I prune this? I believe it is a Chinese Elm.

Thanks in advance!

Get rid of the rock and get it outside if you want it to survive. It is looking weak, and will get weaker if you leave it where it is.

I too am new to this. But I have a nice start on a Blue Jacaranda tree that I started from seed.
Not sure if it's time to start trimming or I should wait until it grows more.

Wait for it to grow more.

Thank you! It's been outside for 2 days right now. I notice a difference straight away. The leaves don't curl downwards anymore. And they get a lot bigger.

I am noticing that many of these bonsai are planted in shallower bowls.

Should I trim roots and replant when it is time to trim branches?

Is the planter shown acceptable or too deep for a Bonsai?

The pot in the picture is ok in this develop phase. If possible, uppot to even bigger pot for faster development.

Bonsai is ready for shallow pot when the thickness of the trunk is in line with the idea about the final design.
