PSA: Check yo wires! was created by Greenstone

I was just looking at my trees today, and I noticed that a Japanese maple sapling had a kinda severe amount of wire bite! I just wired it this spring, and was expecting it to be okay for 12 months whoops! I got the wire off fine, and it’s a 10 year project anyhow, so I don’t really care that much. That said, it would have been better to notice a month or two ago. So check your trees! Growth happens faster than we expect sometimes. I found some others that were scarred too. Dang!

This was the worst, collected Acer Palmatum:

Lesson learned ! Best time to wire young, fast growing trees is late summer, early autumn, when the tree stops growing.
You can have a decidious tree wired for approx. 6 months, depending on age and season. And yes check on regular base, if it's start to bite, onwire and rewire in the opposite direction.
These wounds will be there for a long time.

Yes! I had a birch forest that got crazy bite marks in less than 3 months. It happens to all of us (I think). Just make sure to check on every watering and it can be prevented.
