How far should I keep going? was created by Robby17

I finally got my Chinese Elm back from my family. For the most part, it was taken care of. However, it was a little out of control and was not pruned much. I pruned it back to get it back in shape. As the new growth comes in, the shoots are not opening up until they are way beyond where I want them. So, I have just continued to trim it back to where I want it. My question is, how aggressively or how long should I trim it so that it will return to the full leafy look. Right now it still looks like a shaved chewawa with toothpicks stuck in it!!

Thanks for the comments, and I'll get a pic here soon, but there is not much to look at..... Unfortunately

I started thinking back, and things all changed after my Father had his friend repot the little guy. This older gentleman has been working with Bonsai trees for a long time so I never thought anything about it. But when I trace back to when all this started, that was it. Another question is now that the season has changed here, should I back off? It seems the growth has slowed way down in the last two weeks.

pictures...?

Repotting is dne to give the plant new growing room in the pot, resulting in growth on top. So yes, repotting would cause new growth. It is why it is done.
