Having attended this particular fiddler's convention over forty years, when I found two pines, about two years old, right beside the tent, I just had to bring them home. They have now been in the cup about 30 hours (it was a long drive).

Having no tools or anything, all I could do was get a plastic cup, dig up a lot of the mud around the trees, cut off the tap root about five inches down, stuff them all in the cup, and drive back. The dirt there is a combination of clay, oak leaves, and pine needles, chewed up and mixed up over the decades by RV's driving over them. The dirt they are in would not make it on the site here as bonsai medium.

Should I repot them again in real dirt in a larger pot? Should I leave them as is for a year? Should I give them lots of sun? Should I leave them sort of as is, but toss some sand in to trickle down between the lumps of clay? Fertilize them? Wait a month and repot?
