Hey everybody,

I’m a beginner bonsai enthusiast. I just planted my first batch of seeds about a month ago and I’m wondering if they’re ready for their own pots. I planted Delonix Regia, Black Poui, Picea Abies, and Pinus Aristata. The Picea Abies didn’t sprout at all, but everything else has at least one successful germination.

As you can see in the attached pictures, the biggest tree I have so far is one of the Delonix Regia. So I wanted to ask...

1) Would it be a good idea to move any of these into their own pots?

2) If so, would they need any kind of specific soil? I was going to use this: tinyurl.com/y89838js

Thanks to everyone in advance. I need your help with this stuff.

Congratulations on getting them to this point.

I would leave them for a bit They are still fragile.
You do realize that you are setting yourself up for a long time of waiting right?

How am I setting myself up for a long time of waiting? Or do you just mean that bonsais take a long time to grow?

And when I do repot these, should I use typical bonsai soil (like this: tinyurl.com/y89838js) or would I continue to use the starter soil like I have them in right now?

The first decade you are just growing a plant. Only then will you really be doing bonsai stuff. Which is why I would always recommend to also buy more mature trees to work with. Growing from seed does not make sense for your collection.

Yep, I know. I have a few more mature trees that I’m doing “bonsai stuff” with, but I wanted to grow some stuff in the meantime.

When I repot these plants, would I use bonsai soil? Or stick to peat moss?
