Repotting and the root ball was created by btibbetts

Hi Everyone,
As most I have been reading up on repotting and soils, my collections was inherited so I have several mature pieces I didnt expect this early. So thank you in advance for your advice ad time.
I will refer to soil and aggregate, just trying to understand the relationship between the two.
It appears, to me, that most root balls live in an organic material, with the outer portions of the pot filled with aggregate. Am I correct or is the intention that the whole pot and rot ball would be just aggregate?
If the root ball is in organic matter, does it need to be refreshed, or will cleaning the root ball kill it? Im thinking it may be species dependant?
For a first repot would you suggest seeing if someone from the local club would assist?

Thank you

Hi,

This is species and age dependent. Not all trees can be cleaned out to the core. As these are mateure bonsai, get someone who has good trees to help you.

Is the conclusion of the root ball in organic matter and outer portion in aggregate, correct?
