Just purchased these two hydroponic products in the UK 75 litre bags for €13.94 each, to help lighten the weight of my Bonsai soil. Does the forum think it is any good? Both bags are extremely light and reading the back (in my opinion) when mixed together would create a very light and porous mix.
Currently using 2 x grit, 1 x potting soil, 1 x sharp sand.

Akadama pumice and Kyodama is my mix. I would not use sharp sand or potting soil for any of my trees and I would not use that amount of grit. I am not sure what you have there either never heard of it.

That stuff looks awfully coarse to me.
I try to get my substrate in ~ 3-6 mm grainsize. Only the organic component is sometime coarser.

This product is called Leca in Portugal, its a fired clay aggregate, and yes, it is used for bonsai in Europe and abroad.
We have it here in Brazil and some bonsaists use it mostly for big pines.

Just potted an Acer palmatum tonight the clay popcorn I put as a base layer, the virgin light mix is very airy and light almost fluffy in texture, I will keep the forum informed of my findings with these products
