I was picking up some equipment from a building that is going to be demolished, by the loading dock was a forgotten brazillian raintree that had grown through the pot. I cut under the pot and took the tree(with the building owner's permission).
when I got it home I added more soil and cut 60-70% of the foliage, did a little bit of wiring. will these roots strangle and kill the tree?

The roots will not strangle themselves. They would fuse before that happens.
