Hello,

I recently added moss to my three Bonsai trees, see pictures. I did this by:

- Scraping off the top layer of soil because it was too clumpy and I didn't like the look of it
- Sieving some multi-purpose composite, so I was left with really fine, pure soil (controversial?)
- Replacing the top layer of soil on my bonsais with this fine soil
- Going across the road and collecting from moss that was on the pavement
- Pressing this into my bonsai soil
- Watering the tree

My questions are:

- Is this an OK way to add moss to my bonsais? Any negative effects?
- Can I just leave this moss on here indefinitely now, or do I need to remove it at some point?
- Will the moss actually take up root in the soil and live, or will it slowly die?
- Does it matter that this is naturally growing moss, rather than a particular breed?

All three trees are fig trees, two of them I've had for several years, one is new this Christmas.

Any other moss advice would be great,

Thanks a lot!

Luke

Looks nice, nicely applied. Moss doesn't have roots, so no, it won't take up space in the soil.
No, it will not live. Moss does not live indoors.

I second auk. If the moss grows indoors, you have a serious problem.
