Beginner's Questions on Repotting a Carmona was created by Bella Cataline
Posted 3 years 3 months ago #64877I recently bought my first Bonsai after finding this site, and as it came in a plastic pot I want to transplant it to my porcelain one.
In the beginners guide it says to repot right before growing season. Do I need to leave it in the plastic pot until then?
What sort of soil do I use? (I'm sure this is a frequently asked question) Do I need to buy individual bags of everything and mix it together? Is there a cheaper way? What is the best sort of soil for a tea tree?
Thank you so much for your time!

Posted 3 years 3 months ago #64879Just changing to a nicer pot can be done at any time. Shoose a similar size and just slippot the whole rootball into the new pot.

Posted 3 years 3 months ago #64880So, learn first how to take care of it, keep it alive, and take your time to learn how and when to repot. Good luck

Posted 3 years 3 months ago #64892When you say I should just slip the root it into another pot do you mean I shouldn't change the soil at all? I just take it out of the plastic pot and put it in my bonsai pot and it's as easy as that? Ty!

Only if you are very desperate about changing the pot. It will not benefit the tree and that must be prio 1.

Posted 3 years 3 months ago #64896If you are serious about the art of bonsai, please start with figuring out what species it is and what it needs to survive. A nice pot is not one of them. In fact, a nice pot is the last thing in years or decades of development into bonsai.
Start with posting a picture of the tree here. Maybe someone have an idea of species?

Posted 3 years 3 months ago #64897To be clear, my only question was: how to I put my tree that is still in it's nursery plastic container into a more permanent pot.
(Here are pictures of the two)

We understand that, but the main and first concern is the health of the tree. Placing it in that pot will not make it a bonsai. Chances are very big that your plant wont even make it to spring, let alone you stressing it even more by repotting it.
