Hi everyone!

New to the community and have a few burning questions about some seeds I planted on the 21st of march this year.

I planted 5 seeds of Rocky Mountain Pine (pictured left) and 5 Norway Spruce (right) on the 21st March. As you can see, a few have germinated and are growing. I feel like I should repot the seeds which have germinated into their own pots, but is it too soon to do so? The trees are about 4-5 inches. And if so, what soil should I buy to repot them into? Many thanks, I'm quite desperate as don't want them to die!!

Hello and welcome
The most important thing to do now is place them outside and leave them there for the rest of their lives. They will die inside, no doubt about it.
Concerning repotting: no need for yet, you can wait a year easily.
On a side note: i assume you got these from a "grow your own bonsai " kit. I hope you understand that your seedlings will grow to become normal fullgrown trees, not bonsai. ( Bonsai seed does not exist)

Hi!

Thanks very much for the reply, appreciate it.

I'm surprised at that, as the booklet says they'll compete for resources now and so best to repot. But I'll go with your advice!

And yes, I know there's no such thing as a bonsai seed! I'm looking forward to pruning and wiring them when they're ready!

Many thanks!

Looking at the picture again I noticed that the pots you planted them in might not have a drainage hole?
If not, it might however be better to repot. You can use normal potting soil, no need for bonsai soil. A small plastic container with holes in the bottom is ok.
If you monitor the humidity of the soil carefully ( if there is no drainage hole) you could wait till the stem turns brown, then it will be a bit easier to handle it when repotting

They do have drainage holes, and the trees are outside now so looking forward to seeing more growth!
