@Jerryz
As that is a tropical, you can do that in summer, once it is growing strong/firmly.
Because your a beginner, i would advice not prune to much roots off and gently untangle them. Use soil 3-5mm no bigger particals.
Also provide good after care. Giving it only morning sun for the first week after repot. Then place it to a spot with more light, and 3th week on its spot in full sun.
Do not attemt to do a repot, if you know a heatwave is comming. As that will stress the plant, and yourself.

If you find youserf in a situation that leaves are hanging/ starting do dry off, because you did to much root work. Then cut off 50% of the leaves, so the tree transpires less, and has a beter change of recovering.

Thank you. That is sound advice. Sometimes I get impatient with Bonsai. This is something I really wish I had started years ago. But when you're 70 i'm like COME ON tree grow. LOL. But I do believe that it's worth keeping my store bought tree in the dirt a little longer to get some thick growth.
