I have a large bag of akadama that I really want to use up. The only problem is California is very dry most of the year. What plants tolerate akadama best?

Pines and Junipers.

That's it? How about any cypresses, redwood or chamaecyparis?

We use it here in New Mexico on both conifers and deciduous trees with good results. Our average rainfall here is about six inches per year.

Exactly. You can use acadama around the world. As long as you water frequently.
In some places it will fall apart rapidly, e.g., in countries with wet winters with lots of frost-thaw cycles.
