Albas,
The island are south of Cuba so the closest people I have been trying to follow are in Florida but they get more of a "winter" than we do but I will try to follow their advice.
Well, than it might not be so different from North / Northeast of Brazil, observing the nature around you is always helpfull.
Good luck

I need to get a better understanding of at what stage of a plants "cycle" would be best to do this type of work, from jojo22's comment earlier it appears that the best time to do this would be when the plant has slowed their growth so I would say that is right about now as it is also the dry time of year here.

In thesis it would be after that time, when the plant is beggining to "wake up" that's why we do it on late winter or early spring...
The tree will respond better, suffer less, and won't be so vunerable...
But it seems ok, it will start to get hotter there, right?
