Hey guys, I have a 5 year old wisteria that I've just noticed has ants in the soil. Would it hurt too much to go ahead and change the soil even though it's summer time and I've just done some heavy trimming on it?
Thanks, chad

Some ants in the soil proboably hurt the tree less than repotting in summer.
But wisterias is very though. If you repot, it will likelly recover.

Have the ants started to nest in the soil? If not, they probably are after aphids in the pant itself which is something you can treat.
If they have started to nest in the soil, you do not need to repot. Sink the pot in a large bucket of water and let it sit there for 24 hours. WIsteria loves water and in summer there will be no side-effects (In fact, y wisterias sit in a tray of water)

I would follow leatherback turtle advice, if there are ants, there are also aphids in the tree

Good advice. After that, put a large flat rock in a pan of water and put the pot on the rock, isolating it from land routes for the ants.

I'm pretty sure they started nesting. They come out in a frenzy every time I water. That's good advice I totally forgot about wisteria being able to sit in water for a while. The rest of my trees are oaks.

It definitely doesn't work with them Brazilian ants. They are expert live bridge builders, as the image can prove it.
