My bansai is 2 and a half years old. I've been thinking of repotting and getting fresh soil since it's not been changed since I've had it and not sure if the nursery changed it before I got it. Research says 1/3 of the trunk size but my bansai trunk isn't that thick although it has grown a lot since the beginning days. I'll post some pictures, any tips, recommendations, or "go to's" would be appreciated.

Do not repot until the spring. This young plant looks quite healthy and growing well it needs to grow for few years yet but you can start to prune and style.

There are no such thing as a bansai.

Google search was saying the pot depth should be 1/3 the height of the trunk size and with mine not growing upwards, I couldn't decide if the pot or was in benefited the growth. I'm going to leave it be though.

I have never heard that before and I don't understand it. How to measure trunk hight?But for sure it has to do with final design, not with development or plant health.

Your rule for the dept of the pot is a rule of thumb for old and settled bonsai, in this case you have a few decades to go before you can decide on pot size.

You just made a little confusion about the proportion guidelines...

The pot width should be around 2/3 of your tree's height...
AND
The pot depth should be around the width of your tree's trunk base, on soil level.
(Of course, sometimes we choose to give it deeper pots, for safety or healthiness)

Have in mind that those are for finished trees, that doesn't matter for trees in development stages...
