hello all, as i am only 13 years old, my practical experience is not as good as my theoretical knowledge, so i propose a question: can i repot my buxus material in late summer? i have read in many books that you can repot a box in late summer, so i thought it would be better. I think it would be better due to the fact that there are bugs in the soil and that it is pot-bound. it will get more pot-bound within the next month or so of the growing season, and may not even survive the dormancy time. some pictures are below.

thank you in advance.

The short answer is no.However you can pot on to a larger pot anytime, as long as you do not disturb the roots. The plant you have there will benefit being in a larger pot and will ontinue growing this year. Then you can do a re pot if it needs it in the spring.

while we are talking about box, is it like my chinese elm, can it be kept indoors, my windows are quite drafty (a friend took away the seal at the bottom of the window :( and :) ) i have also read that they are suited to indoor conditions, but i see them everywhere in london. it seems to be doing quite well now though, i would just like to be sure.

thanks

i did a 10 min job and took it out of its old pot and put it in a bigger one and added soil to fill the gap between the old soil and rootball (that by the way was completely pot-bound on a completely new scale :( ) there is a picture below, and i did not disturb the roots.

I meant a big pot. They will do much better outside, same for Chinese Elm, it is a hardy species and does not do well in inappropiate conditions.

it is the biggest i could find as i am into mame bonsai, and anyway you did say a larger pot, not a big pot, i am sure it can last until next spring, and the chinese elm has been growing a lot and actually likes it as the seal at the bottom of the window has come of, i can't move the box out anyway, but the outside cold and coolness is coming into the windowsill anyway. the box seems to be fine, they are the best conditions i can give it, but i do understand that it is a hardy shrub now.

thank you for you comments, they have helped me quite a lot.
