Tube sand got fine grit and particles out.happy frog potting soil and pine shavings cut to size if need be...I have a couple black pine and white pine grafted first year still in pots from nursery than a fiteen year old elm. Few junipers and a 15+ ligustrum. Those in bonsai pots. I feel I am comfortable pruning wiring etc with info I've been collecting on time of year etc on my species. Just I guess looking for a do all "soil" mix for my trees. Oh ya getting a dawn redwood forest in a week also. Thanks for any info I can get.

Can't figure out your substrate recipe. And don't understand why you have your trees on heating mats. Are you in Siberia? Trees need the cold.

Thanks! sorry it was late. Well I think if pine shavings are gonna work its gotta be finer . aesthetically its to big. But the moisture held up over night in warm bathroom pretty well.happy frog has a well draining soil with Forrest products in it. And can add more"sand" rock for aeration . just seeing if u think that combo could work . or eliminate organic soil period ?

Elevated over heated tape. I get down to -20°f alot in winter. And tonmanu critters want my junipers. So protected from freezing roots and mice

OK. Going to als gritty mix final decision. Next ? If anyone has a better plan for dormant period here . leave in camper roots warmed barely .protected . ie wind. And critters cuz in big rubbermaid also. Or outside in rubbermaid mulched . I say rubbermaid bin cuz if let out on the ground or in ground my trees will have been killed by mice.

For u thinkers out there. I didn't think about were these d.r. were coming from till next morning .lol. So in tenesse there lows atm are my possible highs 35°f what do I do ? Throw em in my "cold frame" well warmest and allow to just go dormant, I know still not fully asleep coming from tn. Or treat like my ligustrum atm and mist lights 60-65°f etc. Thanks for any thoughts for confirmation . should be here soon
