virginia junipers... um what did you call them, "red cedars", yes i think they can really do great, but then, I have yet to prove that. Join me in this quest... Let us prove to the the world, that America's favorite juniper, can hold it's own... even in the bonsai world.

ofbonsai.org/species-specific/coniferous/junipers-part-two

where you'll find some info about this species, but also: "Since we are in Florida, it is only fitting that we start with the juniper that is native to our state, Juniperus virginiana"

Ok, so the trees look pretty decent; however, the apex is very tall and narrows a lot. Is there a way to cut the top off?

A troll? I'm not a troll, I'm just simply trying to learn bonsai. The tree is very good at the base, but it seems like it thins too much. I don't know if the maybe tree is simply too big. The tree probably has 1 one inch diameter truck at the base and tapers up to branch size, but the tree is like 6 ft tall. So, you can see my problem.

No, I can't. This is an exhibition-quality tree at a level you will most likely not reach the next decade(s).
Keep learning!

Just curious: what part exactly would you cut off? The whole top?

He's talking about his own tree, not the picture you posted Auk.

Well, I really don't know. That was my question for you. The tree I finally chose is 3' tall. Its the same kind of deal though. It narrows down a ton.

Edit: Oh dear yes I am talking about my own tree!

Riiiight... :woohoo: seemed he responded to my post. Would've been nice if he told us that 'decent tree' was not the one on the photo
