Hi, I don't have open ground to plant trees to grow thicker trunks. I have many trees and plants that are growing in their respective plastic gardening pots and they are putting on the growth that I expect but I was wondering if having a bigger pot helps. I've heard of slip potting but I just want to make sure I'm not wasting time or doubling my time for growing trees. When the option for me to grow in ground is available then I will do that.

Slip-potting is what many nurseries do. Once the pot is filling up with roots and the rootball is stable enough to take the plant out of the pot without faling apart, you can repot in a pot one size larger.

Lovely, thanks for that. Do you know why getting bucket sized pots don't help the growth as well?

If the pot is too large, the soil stays moist too long. That reduces growth

And a bucket will be slower to warm each day and slow the growth rather than enhance it

The ideal size pot allows a plant to absorb most of its water in a day or two, this help to improve the air circulation in the soil. Since roots need oxygen too over potting can cause a plant to "drown" and rot as it holds too much moisture.
