TOPIC: another potted willow.

another potted willow. 6 years 6 months ago #944

I went to my local Goodwill today and picked up this kickin' glazed terracotta bowl-thing for $1.99. I got it home and drilled 4 holes in the bottom, put some screen in,added soil and a willow that was still in water. I wish I had something better looking for this "pot".

That is one gorgeous dish, Lance. :cheer: I luv it! I think that willow really suits the dish and will look fabulous once it has grown out a bit.

By-the-way...did you use the smallest then gradually larger bits to drill the holes with? Just ordinary drill bits for wood or for concrete?
Great work!

Hi Leslie,
I used a plain old masonry bit. I turned it upside down and drilled. :)

"For there is hope for a tree,
if it be cut down, that it will sprout again,
and that its shoots will not cease.
Though its root grow old in the earth,
and its stump die in the soil,
yet at the scent...

here's another willow. This one got knocked over last night during a storm. When I picked it up I realized that it had a big root ball already. I put it in another pot and staked it up. I have read that willows need to be re-potted twice a year. I know why now.

Yes...and I've heard that willow roots can do a number on your weeper bed if you have a septic system nearby. :S

What is the black colour at the top of the trunk, Lance?

The black is dead wood from where it was cut off the original tree. I think i'll end up carving it...if I keep this one. I still have 8 of them.
