Second growth?
I just got the answer to that question at the meeting tonight.
When the weather gets real hot - which means mostly August and low-highs of 90-105F/35-42C or so, the plant gives up and shuts down photosynthesis. Then, when it cools off to 80-85F (yes, cool) the plant starts back up. So, they said, nitrogen fertilizer for while now, till mid October or so, then cut back slowly. If you are using organic types that have to break down, it will take a month or so, so switch to very low nitrogen now.
This explains why the crepe myrtles did fine in August with one watering a day and now are wilted in the morning.
