Tnx Pinkham. When i said i broke off a branch and ran to my car, it really was a tiny little twig i was taking from an enormous willow. But i agree with what you are saying.. Even tho it was a tiny twig i felt pretty bad.

:). I'm not really going to grab and run. And like you said, it's not a good idea and is stealing. Don't worry, l will always ask permission!

and wehre does a tiny twig end, and a small branch start?

asking is easy, and before you know it, you are handed a bunch cutting. And often there are great deals to be had on second hand websites, where for a few pennies nice plants are given away

The willow trees owner would most likely be more than willing to give you a few branches. They grow sooooo fast.

I haven't. Really.
I might be an exception, but I have access to a 15 acre parcel in the Northern Maine woods, and access to another 12 acres in Eastern Maine. I figure, If I can't get it there, I don't need it....unless it's a tree from a nursery, but those are purchased. haha.

Hey Guys - haven't been around in a while - thought I would give an update. All but 3 of my massive collection of corkscrew willows died. :(

Oh well - they were easy to root - just hard to keep alive. Winter wasn't really the best time to do it - but what else can you do when you're itching to watch something grow???

Anyway - I took a branch about an inch in diameter off of the Black Willow tree that I mentioned growing near my office - and wow. It has exploded in growth even faster and more vigorously than the corkscrews. And with a cutting an inch in diameter - it's almost like instant bonsai. The styling is going to be a little weird for awhile until I can get it under control - but this thing is growing like you wouldn't believe!

I'll post pics when I can.
