. Auk said to wait two years before I do anything to the tree. Should I wait exactly two years (2018) or just after this spring and next spring passes?leatherback wrote: Wait with what, for what?

Generally, a good rule of thumb is that the tree´s height should range between 6-12 times the trunk thickness. That is, if you have a trunk of 10 cms in diameter, the tree´s height would hover around 60-120 cms, dependind the style you pretend to apply to your tree, etc.
This, of course, is not a rule written in stone and you can bend it, but it will help you for sure to determine some good proportions your tree should approximately match, in order to look balanced.

You have to wait until Feb. 1st 2018 exactly.
Seriously... I don't know. it depends on lots of things. How will it grow, how will it develop? What's the size and style you have in mind? Just learn the basic thing first: patience.
I know your fingers itch and you want to do something. It's too soon. Leave it alone.
Meanwhile, start learning, and follow the advice given in this topic. Learn how to develop a trunk.

Yeah, quite accurate. Except that after several of these guidelines I can add: 'Unless when it is needed for your design'. I can show you lots of great bonsai that don't follow these rules - and a lot of bad ones that do.
Let your plant grow, OK ? My last reply about this subject for the next 12 months.
