Water Propagation with Cuttings? was created by Jin

Hi everyone,

I am interested in knowing more about propagating with cuttings. I have a few cuttings from my pruned Chinese Elm 2 weeks ago and have been submerging there stem into water ever since, there are tiny hints of roots growing from the stem. I personally feel that water propagation would require more care, like gradually transferring them into soil medium after roots are grown. Just interested in knowing which of the 2 methods of propagation, soil or water, would be faster for root growth.

Thanks.

That is probably why it is better to start cuttings in soil. Then the transition is not needed. Some species will root in water but many will not.

I only propagate verbacious species in water (e.g., geranium). Woody species like Elm are in substrate for me.

It shouldnt be too late to switch to soil propagation a day later from water? Should it?
