Jade - new growth lower down

I have a couple Jades i am starting to Bonsai, and i am wondering if anyone has guidance on how to promote new growth lower down along trunk and heavy branches? Is there a way to pinch or cut at a ring to get new budding? Thanks!

the only way I know to do this is to heavily prune back the upper leaves as this promotes budding lower down on the tree.
