I think it is a lesson. 5 years time. The ONLY think that happened, was adding a crown to an existing trunkline and side branches (And a lot of small detailed adjustments I am sure). So.. If you do not have a good rootbase and trunkline, you have a VERY long time ahead of you.

These pictures show the right order to do it: Roots - Trunk - Primary branches - Canopy.
