I bought a juniper bonsai recently and have an azalea on the way! Also growing a wisteria too. Problem is, I live in a flat with a north-facing balcony and windows. I get lots of direct sunlight from around 3pm until sunset which is perfect for me but probably not for my plants!
I want to build a wooden box with lights in it but not sure what to choose for bonsai - seem to find LOADS of stuff re cannabis...
I guess the principles are the same however I would much appreciate guidance from experienced growers.
Thanks...

The Juniper should be outside, as it's not just a matter of light, but also airflow, rainwater, temperature variation.
Juniper die if kept indoors.

I heard that Juniper die inside but... I'm going to see how it gets on under a 1000W LED light source during the day and outside on my balcony overnight. Juniper thrive on mountains - bright during the day and cold overnight. Hopefully, I can recreate this??

it would be a sham to loss a nice little juniper. do not move trees around like you stated. place the tree outside and leave it there all day and night. trees in the mountains dont get moved indoors during the day then out at night. if you want to recreate their natural life style like you stated then leave it outside at all times and dont move it around.

You will find lots of experienced bonsai growers here.
You will not find anyone who grows juniper bonsai indoors.

I may try and make some kind of water proof housing for a grow light and put it on the balcony?

I think the main take away message is: think before you buy. Make sure that the species you get can do well in your setup.
I would not keep tje juniper as it will be dificult to grow and stay nice at your place. Yews do very well in these conditions however.
