New Bonsai

Hi Guys and Gals

My name is Simon and I have recently been bought a Bonsai having felt that I would like to get back in to the hobby after 10 years away and a pretty disastrous first attempt.

My wife came back from B&Q with a Bonsai for me as an early birthday present but there is no ID on it so if anyone can help it would be appreciated, also any tips on care for this type would be great. The pics are below

To me it looks a little bit like a Ficus (or even a magnolia), not sure though, I dont grow these kind of trees actually.

Thanks Oscar, I believe I have found what it is, a Fukien Tea. It seems to match a picture I found

I would agree it looks a lot like the Fukien tea tree and that is what i would say it is. Fukien tea trees look a lot like weeping figs because they are commonly sold in a snaking trunk shape. I wish you luck.

As for care, water it regularly, (use loose, gritty, well-draining soil in a pot with one or more holes in the bottom) remember to feed it, (your local garden center can probably recommend a good all-purpose fertilizer. Some insecticide would be a good idea too.) and trim as needed to keep it small. Once every year to every 5 years it will need to be repotted, and you can either upgrade to a larger pot or just trim the roots a little. You can tell it needs to be switched when it becomes pot-bound, with roots completely filling the container. Trim the roots as needed and place it in whichever pot you desire. Good luck!
