Good morning from Vancouver.
I am new to the world of bonsai. I have tried but not successful.
I am inspired to start a grape bonsai as I have seen a beautiful grape bonsai plant in Japan a few years ago. I have managed to gather a few fresh cuttings yesterday and was going to start the propagating process today from reading online stuff. However, after reading more into it, I find I am off the mark of knowledge by a mile.
I am hoping that there is a course of someone to guide me along the process. I would not like to kill another batch of grape vines again.
Thank you. All

Well we have an online course I think suits your needs, but make sure to look up clubs near you as well:

Hi Oscar.
Thank you for your suggestions. I have already enrolled in that course. It does not have specific topic on hard wood bonsai such as grape bonsai.

Starting from cuttings and grow in pot means that you will proboably not experience the final result within your life time.
The mature grape vine bonsai you saw in Japan has been grown in the ground extending 10s of meters every year and cut back yearly for several years.
I would suggest to look for good starter materials locally.

The big box hardware stores around here have garden sections that stock up every spring on garden plants and usually have grapes. You could get a couple of them and have something already several years old and suitable for your climate.
Good luck.

Hi Sir:
Thank you for you comment. I understand. Do you have any suggestion in where and how to obtain a starter root for the plant?
Thank you.

Where I am they show up from time to time in garden centers. I have seen them on two occations since I got interested in bonsai 7 years ago.
But bear in mind that I live in an area where most grape varieties is non hardy. If you live in an area where there are grape and wine production it should be very easy to call a producer and ask for one. Old wines is less productive and they change them on a scedule between 10-20 years.
