Update on this.
I looked at the site Auk recommended, and ordered a package of sticky traps to hang in the tree. The one trap I hung up has a lot of bugs stuck to it, probably less than a hundred. It is bright yellow which may attract them. The trees all seem to be big free.
So, once again, good advice from the forum and, particularly, Auk.

I am a big fan of Yellow Stick Traps. For White fies and Fungus gnats mostly. Not very pretty on a bench, but they get the job done.
