Hi!

I have just bought my very first bonsai (Acer palmatum) and I am absolutely novice. So any tips, advices are welcome!
I would like to know, when can I wire and prune my tree. In the middle it's a bit too dense, so I want to cut off some branches and wire the rest. But I found them a bit too hard to bend, even to move so I'm not sure how to do this. And the other question is when? I have read a lot on different sites/books and some of them say different times to do these.
Cutting back new shoots is enough or possible now or can I do more intense pruning in this period of the year (I live in Central Europe)?
My aim is a Moyogi style.

Thanks a lot!

Hello and welcome.
Well, first of all you need Tom ring it outside, inside it will die
Second, and that’s something we tell everyone: try and keep it alive first for a year before doing anything. Most newcomers kill their first trees in the first few months so keeping it alive will be difficult enough. That will give you enough time to look at the tree, look at it a bit more, look at it again to decide which way you want to go with (or where the tree wants to go, better) and study when to prune and wire ( which is not now)
