I guess we disagree then. If you state akadama is essential to get fine ramification, I say this is untrue. Nothing to do with quoting out of context. Just tryng to prevent a misconception from spreading.

Original poster was asking about pumice vs akadama and therefore I will still hold my stand and say that akadama is essential for fine ramification, because pumice alone will not be able to promote growth of fine feeder roots, which is essential for fine ramification.

I guess we will have to disagree then, which is fine by me. Maybe you can help the OP with your opinion on the subject instead of just making a comment saying that my statement is untrue? Because that does not really help the OP who was btw asking for advise.

I'm not necessarily completely disagreeing but:

The bonsai masters use these soils, which are a type of pumice only found in Japan, especially for their prized specimen bonsai


It has been a while since we have seen a priced specimen bonsai from a Japanese bonsai master in a Japanese environment on this forum.
