Hi Everyone,

So today I have purchased a "Winter Gold" mugo pine (or atleast that's what they called it in the nursery - attached some pictures.
I got really excited seeing it having a decently tapered main trunk and a what seems to be healthy foliage.

My problem is that I'm not sure whether I should re-pot it right now in spring or just wait after having pinched the first set of candles (Probably July or so). I have managed to find a couple of articles on Mugo Pines which stated that this specific species does better with repotting in the growing season rather than in spring.
I've also checked with an aquaintance who's alot more versed in Bonsai than I am and he suggested I should repot it either right now in spring or in autumn. He also said that the main two ramifications going out of the trunk are quite think and that I should hard cut them back in winter. Having a closer look, it does seem like they're thicker than they should but on the other hand I'm also skeptical of completely removing them - do you think that after styling and cleaning it up a bit it would look disproportionate?

Thanks in advance.
Iulian

Hi everyone,

Apologies, don't mean ro be pushy, but would really appreciate some piece of advice, at least as far as the repotting timing goes.

Thanks.

My experience is that the best repotting time for mugos is late summer . Read some interesting articles of Harry Harrington of bonsai4me on that topic.

It looks healthy, and many people repot mugos in the autumn.
